Under nutrition is one of the leading causes of death for children under the age of 5 years. In Somalia, 1 out of every 8 children is at risk of dying due to under nutrition and millions more are at risk of stunted growth due to chronic malnutrition.
Through the implementation of Essential Package of Health Services program (E.P.H.S), Somali AID with a target of 38,000 pregnant mothers and children has reached over 20,453 pregnant mothers and children under the age of five year in the southern region of Somalia in the past ten months.
In our endeavor to serve the humanity we run two health facilities at Kudhaa and Raskamboni where we offer golden live-saving services to venerable children and pregnant mothers. Through the provision of service such as treatment of severe malnutrition that has enable us reach 1556 pregnant women and 1468 children; through the Extensive Program on immunization we have immunized 2064 pregnant mothers and 5434 children, we have also trained 8 local health workers and 7 midwives on management of malnutrition and care for patients in addition to basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care in order to help reduce the women dying giving birth.
To help children recover from Acute Malnutrition, we rolled out the Infant and Young Child Feeding Program (IYCFP) that has helped feed over 3607 children and when cases are Severe we have referred the patients to the port city of Kismayo.
